In this study, feedback analyses using empirical methods of Peck (1969) and O’Reilly and New (1982) are delivered based on case record of tunnels of Contract CR3 in Kaohsiung Rapid Transit System and the influence zone caused by tunnel construction is evaluated also. Further, numerical analyses using FEM program PLAXIS are carried out and results are compared with observations. At last, stresses of tunnel segments are calculated in association with an empirical method and results from both empirical method and FEM analysis are compared and discussed. Considering the outcome of this study, the evaluated width parameter “K” and ground loss “V” varies from 0.1 to 1.0 and 0.1 - 1.71% respectively for the 1st tunnel. In contrast, “K” is in the range of 0.08 to 1.0 and “V” is in the range of 0.04 - 2.23% for the following tunnel. Results of numerical analyses present that the prediction using the assumption of E (elastic modulus of soil) equal to 7200 times SPT- N value (unit : kPa) could reach the most closer surface settlement trough with field observations. Moreover, ground loss of tunnel (VL) is close to ground loss calculated from settlement trough (VS) in this study. Finally, stresses of tunnel segments interpreted from empirical method are significantly greater than the ones from PLAXIS analyses and a further exploration for the reason is needed.
