Popis: | 95 Based on the conditions that dissolved air does exist in the pore water, the author of this thesis redefined immediate settlement of a soil at first. Then a method for determining immediate settlement was proposed by using results from a consolidation test. By adopting this new method and utilizing results from consolidation tests for specimens composed of sand and kaolinite with different content of sand, relationships among strains of immediate settlements, over-consolidation ratios, and the applied vertical pressures under conditions of normal consolidation were investigated. Results from this study indicate that 1. For the specimens under over-consolidation conditions, the resulting stains of immediate settlements are small and have a decreasing tendency when over-consolidation ratios are reduced from 8 to 2. 2. For the specimens under normal consolidation conditions, when vertical pressures were applied continuously from 98.07kPa to 196.14kPa, 392.28kPa, 784.56kPa, and 1569.12kPa, the resulting strains of immediate settlements vary up and down with the increase in the applied vertical pressures. However, the total settlement, including immediate and consolidation settlements, still has an increasing tendency with the increase in the applied vertical pressures. 3. For the specimens under over-consolidation conditions, when the content of sand is increasing from 0 to 50%, the resulting immediate settlements are located in a band and have tendency to decrease with the increase in the over-consolidation ratios. 4. For the specimens under normal consolidation consolidations, when the content of sand is increasing from 0 to 50%, the resulting immediate settlements are located in a band and have tendency to decrease with the increase in the applied vertical pressures. |
