Analysis on the Benefit of Preventive Maintenance System using the Feedback Control System Model—Case Study of an Navy Helicopter Type

Popis: | 95 Due to the pervasive industrialization and automation, corporate expenditures on capital investment increase dramatically and maintenance of equipment played an important role in order to reduce the economic loss resulting from substantial facilities failure. Both in theory and practice aspects, researchers persistently seek for the most economical and efficient solution to pursuit the optimal preventive maintenance, in the light of various facilities. In this study, we found out from literature review that design of experiments in Taguchi method is one of the major maintenance management techniques to solve the optimal maintenance periodical or interval. Besides, preventive maintenance is a kind of on-line quality engineering and previous research had ever constructed a general framework comprising four feedback loops for preventive maintenance optimization (Tan and Kramer, 1997). Hence this study adopted the concept of feedback control system (FCS) in Taguchi quality engineering to investigate the benefit analysis of two types of preventive maintenance system. We first established a FCS model in quality engineering, then used empirical maintenance data and finally evaluated the optimal periodical for quality improvements. This study selected the helicopter as the target of case study. We proposed a decision model for the optimal maintenance periodical and categorized the analytical data as two kinds of projects: initial project (short periodical between two maintenances) and lean one (long periodical between two maintenances). The findings revealed that the lean project had higher benefit in terms of quality loss and did have the reasonable improvements. |
