Popis: | 95 Taiwanese economy has lived on foreign trades for long, making itself a typical country with high foreign-trade dependence (FTD). Over the several decades, the government had taken the trading policies to cope with the change of the whole environment, boosting Taiwanese economy robustly and creating economic miracle. However, the dramatic change of the global trading environment, such as the challenges of trade liberalization, escalating cross-strait economic and trade development, makes traders in Taiwan face ordeals. Beset by difficulties both at home and abroad as well as fierce competition, traders need to modify their competition strategies in order to enhance their competitiveness and chip in the niche category they can rely on. It is worthwhile to understand how the traders in Taiwan keep their competitive capability under this challengeable situations. The aim of this study is to investigate the exploration behavior of Taiwanese small and medium traders who exclusively manage high-tech products. After the collection of 184 leader-company dyadic data, this study utilized the random-effects panel regression models to examine the hypotheses. The results showed that the positive difference between organizational performance and past performance or industry performance increased traders’ behavior of new product and customer exploration. On the other hand, the negative difference increased the product exploration but decrease customer exploration. Besides, top leaders’ need for cognition had negative effect on both kinds of exploration behavior, whereas leaders’ risk-taking propensity had positive effect. It was also found that need for cognition of a leader and risk-taking propensity had moderating effects on the relationships between performance differences and new product development. The findings, implications and limitations of this study were discussed. |
