An extension of memory-The situation implied in the interior space

Nowadays the civilized society changes rapidly, the pace of busy life and enormous media information have gradually enabled the “feeling” of us to be substituted by extends from external world. I hope that in drawing, primitive and the pure feeling of a person can be revealed by the most direct way. Besides, I hope this kind of most primitive energy can arouse the in-depth consciousness which has been forgotten by the viewers. This idea urges me to explore the most touching part of representation painting - - situation. For me, the touching moments come from the intrinsic of art. Chapter 1 Introduction First of all, I try to refresh my childhood and youth, which affects my artistic creation most; my learning process in early stage and life of being an artist is described. By painting, ultimate question has been raised—who am I? This is also the motive of my creation. This thesis remains me as well as others to be aware of the innermost and innocent things from our surroundings in order to interpret how the environment affects the spiritual life in painting. Chapter 2 Establishing a Language of Paint I have been interested in classical oil painting at the beginning of my act of life. I have been studying the expression methods from different movements, extracting the suitable skills to become one of mine. I spontaneously explore the “empty interior space” as my study material. Searching the innermost being is kind of manner of analysis in the creative process. Chapter 3 Image, Memory and Situation Following the long period of precipitation, the image of memory transformed naturally into “intrinsic image”. This subjective implication is very important for my creative process. In this chapter, the importance and relationship of image, memory and situation in painting will be discussed; the unique situation in living space will be described as well. Chapter 4 Painting Expression I tried to paint almost the same period of time everyday because I carefully chose the lighting during creating. After that, I chose the colors depend on the lighting and the feeling of time in order to express the spirit status and the feeling inside. By observing the change of texture of subject, I can understand more the meaning of time and humanity behind the space. Chapter 5 Time and Life A lot of people ask me whether there is a relationship between time and death in my works, honestly, I don’t feel directly associated with death during painting. This is unusual, because the most touchable is spirit of people, things and events that happened in time. In the real world, subject and space both are media that reflecting the concept of time. Summary This thesis represents the end of one stage, yet it is the beginning to find myself. I wish to make a breakthrough in the view about the material world, and therefore the material and spirit can be connected with depth. By this connection, we may reveal clearly the meaning of being ourselves.
