Popis: | 94 This research is aimed to study the elementary school fifth graders’ concept on the cooling effect of salt. POE (prediction-observation-explanation) strategy was used to teach the concepts on the cooling effect of salt. A total of 68 elementary school fifth graders’ concept on the cooling effect of salt was collected ;and further, the influences of POE strategy on the subjects’ concept was analyzed later. POE strategy was instructed to all the subjects. Eighteen fifth graders were selected for individual interviews. Evaluation sheets on POE and interviews were collected, analyzed and concluded. The conclusions of the research could be sumarrized as follows:Subjects in this research had many alternative concepts regarding to the cooling effects of salt. The alternative concepts included: “Iron powder will absorb the temperature. Adding iron powder into the ice cube will make it hotter. ” “Salad oil has heat. Adding salad oil into the ice cube will make it hotter.” “Iron powder, sugar, and vinegar are cool. Adding the above substances into the ice cube will cool the ice cube.” “Salt will make the ice melt; therefore, adding salt into the ice cube will make the ice melt faster”.,etc.The fifth graders’ concepts were not accurate and formed from their old experience. POE strategy helped some of the fifth graders to change their wrong concept. The findings in this research was hoped to provide suggestions for the future research and for curriculum design and instruction for elementary school science and life class. Finally, suggestions were provided for improving the research process and implication on teaching. |
