The study used qualitative research methods to explore the field experiences and perspectives developed during the implementation of a study circle held for a group of gifted 3rd graders. The research was guided by three questions. First, what was my understanding about the design of study circles, and how did this understanding guide me to design a study circle program before putting it into action? Second, what field experiences did both my students and I obtain from the study circle? Third, what meaning of professional development did I have that could be attributed to the experiences of conducting the study circle and observing student’s learning process? The outcomes of this study were presented in three parts. The first part described my knowledge on the design of study circles, and how I designed the study circle based on my understanding. The second part reported in detail what field experiences and perspectives developed for my students and me during the implementation of the study circle. The last part presented personal reflections and professional development from the study circle program. Based on the findings and implications of it, the study concluded by providing several concrete suggestions on instruction and future researches. The issue of instruction was considered in several aspects including the role of students, the arrangement of study circles, the ways of teaching, and the reflective thinking of teachers. As for the future studies, there were suggestions on the attitudes of the researchers and research methods adopted.
