The research adopt the method of the Quasi-experimental design. The activities designed in this research are based on “extended exploration” concept. The topic of “the animal’s behavior of reproduction” is chosen for the teaching experiments. And “the attitudes towards science scale”, “the nature of science scale”, and “studying achievement assessment test” are used as the research tools to evaluate the upturn of the student’s attitude towards science and the nature of science. Also used are “the worksheet of the theoretical concept” and “the questionnaire of the teaching feed back” for the collecting and analyzing of the qualitative data. The research shows the following facts: First, using CD-ROM picture books of the historical scientists’ stories in the teaching of the nature science has positive and continuous effects in the upturn of the attitude towards science and the nature of science. It also administer to the students’ study of the theoretical concept. The high achievement students will become more interested in the higher level theoretical concepts, and the lower achievement students are more interested in the lower level theoretical concepts. Second, the use of the CD-ROM picture books and the extension activities of making booklets can diversify the teaching and make it more active and appealing. It’s a practical teaching strategy. According to the result of the research there are two suggestions for the teachers. First, when using CD-ROM picture books as teaching materials teachers should control the playing time appropriately and give enough time for students to thoroughly discuss and think about the topic. In this way it will also push teachers to improve their professional knowledge. Second, when choosing and editing the scientist stories teachers should take the student’s age and interest into consideration. Topics like Taiwan modern scientists’ stories or some challenging scientific stories are also considerable. |
