Most network architectures belong to the Client-Server network. If the number of clients increases, the server would get more loads. People want to play streaming videos smoothly. If someone wants to own a streaming server to provide services, he should have high-speed equipment whit a big bandwidth. Unfortunately, this kind of streaming server equipment is very expensive for most people. P2P, which is one of nowadays hot network techniques, can reduce the server’s load. Even though no centralized servers exist, every peer can be a client and a server. However, how to use P2P technique in a streaming system is another hot topic next to file sharing applications. In our paper, BitTorrent, which is one of P2P file sharing applications, is chosen to be our main P2P research subject and applied to out streaming system, called “BT Stream”. Our system uses BitTorrent to be our data transceiver from other peers and integrates Windows Media Player to be the streaming video player. In our paper, in order to use BitTorrent to implement a streaming prototype system, we have also solved the problems, including BitTorrent random downloading pieces, real streaming data transmission, and delivering data to Media Player.
