The Impacts of Internet Use on Undergraduate Student's Life Adjustment

This study aimed to investigate the current situation of undergraduate students’ Internet use, the differences between undergraduate students with different background variables and different Internet use, and the differences on life adjustment for undergraduate students with different Internet use. The subject of this study was 723 undergraduate students from five universities located in the south area of Taiwan. Chi-square test, two-way ANOVA were used in data analysis. The findings of this study were as followings. 1. Above seventy percent of Undergraduate students used Internet exceeding three hours every day in average and undergraduate students who used Internet less than one hour every day was few. 2. The types of Internet use behavior which undergraduate students used most were leisure type, communication type, information learning type, and tools type orderly. 3. There was an interaction between grades and the time of Internet use. For juniors, students who used Internet less than one hour every day was worse than who used Internet for three to five hours every day on emotional adjustment. For seniors, students who used Internet less than one hour every day was better than who used Internet for three to five hours and above five hours on emotional adjustment. 4. Female undergraduate students were better than male undergraduate students on academic adjustment. Seniors were better than sophomores and juniors on emotional adjustment. Undergraduate students who used Internet for three to five hours every day was better than who used Internet above five hours every day on academic adjustment. Undergraduate students who used information learning type most were better than who used leisure type and communication type on goal, academic, emotional adjustment.
