Popis: | 94 Integrating Digital Art Resources and Internet Platform into Color Ink-Painting Teaching in Elementary School: An Action Research Approach ABSTRACT As an elementary school art teacher, I have witnessed and experienced the heavy workload of teaching art. And, given the easy access to information technology in my school (an experimental school affiliated to a national university), I realized that I could take advantage of the Internet platform and the available digital art resources and integrate them into my art teaching. Therefore, an action research approach was conducted to explore the color ink-painting instruction in a fifth grade classroom with digital art resources and Internet platform. Based on the findings of the study, important conclusions are summed up as follows: A. The scenario analysis of the color ink-painting course of the school showed that the hardware and software of the research site were adequate, the teacher was aggressive in delivering the instruction program, and the program was supported by the administration. However, parents were not as enthusiastic and supportive, as art was often seen as an unimportant subject. Students, as a result, were low in motivation. B. The implementation of an action research project required carefully designed procedures which take children’s artistic development, organization of the course content, the appropriateness and feasibility of the project into consideration. C. A partner in action research had the advantage of facilitating professional development of the teacher researchers involved, but scheduling was a major issue. D. A rich variety in instructional activities could promote students’ interest in learning. E. Based on the evaluation by the instructor and the students, the action research project had the following benefits: 1. The use of digital art resources was beneficial in assisting students’ understanding of the basics of color ink-painting, in promoting students’ interest, and in facilitating students’ skills in holding the brush, applying the ink and colors. 2. Students liked the online self-assessment because it was easy to do and could provide immediate feedback to the learner. Furthermore, the online peer evaluation platform provided a convenient environment for students to review and appreciate each other’s works, which might enhance their aesthetic sensibility. But teacher in teahing should notice the following: 1. Students found the instructional videos made by the teacher researcher helpful because they had high resolution pictures and were easy to follow. 2. To promote students’ confidence and creativity, the teacher could demonstrate in person the steps of a task after students watched the instructional video. 3. In integrating digital resources into art teaching, it was necessary to adapt proper instructional strategies to increase students’ level of concentration on the learning task. Several suggestions are presented according to the results of the study: A. It is important to develop digital color ink-painting materials for children and to set up a website for such a purpose. B. It is necessary to provide the teacher with a specially equipped multimedia classroom designed for integrating information technology into the curriculum. C. It is necessary to adopt appropriate digital resources and instructional strategies in a computer-assisted art class. D. Collaboration with teachers from other content areas would be beneficial. E. A useful teaching tip is to require students to complete their subtitles on paper first which can be then uploaded to the Internet. F. It is suggested that the “Collection and Appreciation” section of the interactive ink-painting courseware provided by Taiwan Museum of Art could add a “save-file” function, and the “Ink-Painting Basic Skills” section could add voice explanation while the demonstration screen should be enlarged. G. It is suggested that the instructional VCD for fifth grade visual art provided by Kang Hsuan Educational Publishing Corporation could add a demonstration section on “How to Apply Color Ink” to make it more complete.
