In this study, we use commercial humic acid and KCl to simulate the natural organic matter and conductivity of surface water. Three types of membranes were used in this study: RO, NF and UF membrane. In the first, we discuss the rejection of organic matters and conductivity, and then the analysis of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was carried out to the fouling of membrane surface with humic acid. Furthermore, DI water and 0.1 N NaOH solution were used to rinse membranes surface and estimating recovery of the water flux of membrane. Finally, the effects of applied pressure and applied temperature on membrane were studied. The experiment results indicated the correlation of COD, TOC and UV254 of humic acid was COD = -5.6298 + 2.8961 * TOC,R2 = 0.987; UV254 = 0.00916 + 0.0736 * TOC, R2 = 0.999; COD = -0.12962 + 0.0272 * UV254,R2 = 0.979. Therefore, COD and be replaced with TOC or UV254 to indicate the organic matters in the water. The separation ability of three membrane decreases in the following order: RO>NF>UF. The rejection of TOC, color and conductivity for all the three types of membrane is RO>NF>UF. The rejection of organic matter (TOC and color) and inorganic matter (conductivity) of RO membrane was greater than 90%. The results of SEM show that RO, NF and UF membrane were rinsed by 0.1 N NaOH solution is better than rinsed by DI water. When the TOC of humic acid solutions are 2, 10, 20 mg/L, the FDIw are 0.035, 0.05, 0.08 respectively. It indicates that the more concentration of humic acid, the more FIDw value. Moreover, the rejection of RO membrane on conductivity is higher than TOC. The rejection of conductivity and TOC decreased with the applied temperature increased.
