Popis: | 95 The Social Dilemma:A discussion on childless by choice of DINKS in Taipei Area Abstract The aim of this work is mainly to investigate why some parents in Taipei area remain childless. The data, which were collected from spouses, explore the reasons that double-income families remain childless, how social transition affects traditions and the roles of parents through feminine and masculine different viewpoints. Moreover, the study examines the traditional request for married spouses and the contemporary fertility, and analyses the voluntary childless couples by In-depth interview and focus group for family and population policies. The research shows that childless parents’ attitudes towards fertility are not influenced by the tradition: “to have a son to carry on the family name”, but mainly by the individual will, additionally, by social, family transitions and the individual value. Reasons for the voluntary childlessness include the effect upon social transitions (ex: gender ideology, late marriages, competitions in education, investment, etc.), family transitions (ex: the constitution of nuclear family, the changeover of a traditional viewpoint: “raising sons to support one in one’s old age, etc.) and personal thoughts (ex: jobs, time, economy, breeding and the influence on marriage, etc.) which lead to the voluntary low fertility. Although many people are aware of the decreasing birth rate year by year, only few people study further why parents in Taiwan remain childfree. By this research, their attitudes toward childlessness can be realized in more depth. |
