Comparison on the Effectiveness of Taiwanese Enterprises Implementing the Enterprise Resource Planning System Based on the Ownership Structure

The trend of globalization is on the rise. In a flattening world, people are facing more pressures, competitions but endless business opportunities. During the course of globalization, the flattening of the world is credited to three forces: (1) System; (2) Technology; and (3) Resources. This study holds the view that applications of System and Technology have supplementary effects and impacts. The study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness following enterprises implementing the Enterprise Resource Planning System (hereinafter “ERP”), in a context of ownership structure under the corporate governance concepts. To further explore the realms of ERP, this study will provide structures of the idea and know-how. Scholars home and abroad mostly orient their ERP studies of ERP on topics like: system selection, system introduction and improvement on the internal process. Only a few of them would base their researches on the ERP system operation and effectiveness from perspectives of the corporate ownership, management power as well as ownership. Under this circumstance, this study applies the Paired-Comparison T Test, examining the three-sectioned ownership structures of the 180 sampling service providers and manufacturers in Taiwan, giving a full-length comparison on whether, after the introduction of EPR system, there will be any prospect of differences in terms of the return ratio indicators. This study has discovered: In terms of the service industry: Comparing to the service providers whose controlling shareholders are holding over 40 percent of the stake of their company, those whose stake rage between 10 to 40 percent show greater difference. Service providers whose controlling shareholders are holding 10 to 40 percent of the company stake have better ERP system performances, compared to those whose controlling shareholders hold over 40 percent of the company stake.
