Cost Evaluation for Supporting Voice Calls in Dual-Mode Wireless Communication Networks with Multicasting

Popis: | 94 Voice over WLAN promises to be a killer application in the integrated dual-mode wireless communication network (DWCN). However, the outage probability is high because the WLAN radio is easily sheltered from objects. Besides, the voice packet delay varies with the number of voice users because of channel contention. A multihop method along with voice packet aggregation can be used to reduce the outages of voice calls’ service and enlarge the number of voice calls. In this paper, we propose an aggregated multihop multicasting (AMM) method for carrying voice packets over DWCN and a heuristic Steiner tree algorithm for the generation of the multicast routing tree. A delay constraint which guarantees the quality of voice calls’ service is added in the algorithm. The cost function and delay constraint of the heuristic algorithm is analyzed and the performance of the aggregated multihop multicasting scheme are obtained via simulation. The simulation result shows that the outage probability can be improved more than twofold constrained 150 ms of delay requirement. |
