Design of optical zoom lens system for cellular phone with digital camera

In this thesis, every case of the optical zoom lens system is made of a similar Gaussian structure. And by using this similar Gaussian structure, we carry out the first order design. According to the CMOS image sensor specifications; we have defined the optical specifications of 2X, 3X and 4X optical zoom lens systems. Draw a diagram in Seidel aberration to decide the shape factor and curvature of the thin lens. Then, thicken the thin lens. Finally, a proper spherical lens system by giving every thin lens a compatible thickness is achieved. We choose the optical plastic as the lens material to promote the system efficiency. We use the ZEMAX optical design software. We also design the lens aspheric and have diffractive surface. The purpose of doing that is to increase the degrees of freedom of the system design and profit to optimize the whole optical system. The results are more practicable and compatible to the optical specifications. We have completed the designs of miniature zoom lens system of 2X, 3X and 4Xfor the 100k and 300k pixels CMOS sensors. The image spots and the MTF results are quite satisfactory, and the zoom lens system size is around 9mm to 15mm only.
