This study used a cross-sectional survey and is subjected to probing into the source of clinical nurses’ sexual knowledge, their sexual attitude as well as confidence in dealing with psychiatric patients’ “sexual problems”, and the correlations of these factors/variables with the basic attributes of participants. One hundred and sixty-nine participants from general medicine and surgery of some medical center located in southern Taiwan were selected. A survey of participant’s personal basic information and the scale to evaluate nurses’ sexual knowledge, sexual attitude, and confidence in managing patients’ sexual problems were applied as research instruments. Apart from descriptive statistics analysis, independent t-test one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis were employed in data analysis. The results shown that there was 94.16% of correction rate in the scale of general sexual knowledge and their source of which was mainly from reading materials such as magazines, newspapers, and books, etc. “Working seniority” and “job position” have shown significant differences from clinical nurses’ sexual knowledge. “Educational background” and “working seniority” were significantly different from clinical nurses’ sexual attitude. In addition, participants with working seniority of “two-years and below” were significantly higher than those with “2.01~5.00 years”, analyzed by Scheffe’s test. Moreover, results indicated no statistical difference between participants’ basic attributes and their confidence in managing patients’ sexual problems. Finally, there were significantly positive correlations among clinical nurses’ sexual knowledge, sexual attitude, and their confidence in coping with patients’ sexual problems. This study was recommended to be used as reference in clinical practices, counseling, and the course design of sex education to nurses.
