This study was trying to revisit and reflect on the contemporary sexuality studies, in particular for gay and lesbian, and the developments of state-society in Taiwan via comparisons between the horizons of long-term and short-term perspectives, in epistemology, the dynamic balance between involvement and detachment in methodology, and a synthetic method/the study of synthetic connections and linear cause-effect in analyses. Hence, instead of being preoccupied via the beliefs of the traditional left vs. right, this study not only complemented and revised the issues of the gay and lesbian studies, such as subject, identity, right, and power via the social dimensions, namely the differentiate experiences between generations, but also employed the schemes of the development of state-society, i.e. state formation, civilization, functional democratization, highly individualization, to approach, compare, and integrate the changes of social personality and the sensitivity of the scholars. The findings of this study are as follows. In terms functional dimension, the conflicts between the heterosexuality and the homosexuality result from the opposite values of social-genesis and psycho-genesis of figurations and subjects. As a result, to balance of powers of both parties will not be resolved by moral condemnation and Ideologiekritik. Based upon the point of view of civilization, in contrast, deliberating and re-thinking of interdependences of both affective bonds and their functions will be essential, and the efforts include the transformation of the highly conditional second nature of the social personality to the third nature, toward more empathy and mutual identification.
