Popis: | 93 The ballet music ‘Parade’, is a Gesamtkunstwerk form composed of libretto, dancing, music and design of the platform sets and costumes. It was a popular style of performance art at those times. Its contributors include Jean Cocteau’s (1882-1963) creative work of that libretto and Leonid Massine’s (1896-1979) choreography. Moreover, Sergey Pavlovitch Diaghilev (1827-1929) presented the dancing with his Ballets Russes, Erik Satie (1866-1925) composed the music, and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) designed the sets and the costumes. This thesis surveyed and discussed these wide spread contents in five Chapters, and then stepped into both main kernel of the proposition and the analysis of the music content. This thesis proposed not only the comprehensive understanding of the music texture and its creation idea, but also the discussion on its real meaning and significance among the musical history. Chapter ONE included the survey form Satie’s life, his unique characteristic and the progression of his music composition. These survey lead to the background- understanding of the formation of his music style, and to the development of the creation process of‘Parade’was studied further. The progress from the very beginning of idea creation to the premiere of‘Parade’was investigated in Chapter TWO. The real text of the ballet was studied in sections such as the brewing of this ballet, creation procedure, and premiere statuses. The whole creation process was then surveyed to comprehend the whole story. In Chapter THREE, the ballet’s libretto, dancing, and the platform sets and costumes were explored first. It was endeavored to clarify the mutual relationship between those Gesamtkunstwerk, and then, in order to grasp the real meaning of the music’s spiritual intention. The details of the composition was studied further in Chapter FOUR, which includes eight sections of music structure, tonality, melody, mode, harmony, orchestration, rhythm, and the texture. This chapter analyzed and discussed Satie’s music with two directions, that’s “generality” and “specialty”. They were aimed at the clarification of real context and the creation idea for this ballet music. Discussion on the appraisal of what‘Parade’had received and the influence it has established on musical history were presented in Chapter FIVE. By doing so, its real meaning and significance among the musical history was appreciated further. Finally, author of this thesis presented a conclusion based upon the proposition proposed in these chapters. |
