Popis: | 93 Purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of chondroitin sulfate on the canine fractured bone healing. Ten castrated, young adult dogs, the body weight around 15 kg, were randomly divided into the control and the chondroitin groups. Oblique femoral fracture was created artificially then fixed by modified intramedullary arrow pin and circlage wires. In the control, the dogs had no medication after the surgery. The chondroitin group, dogs were orally treated with chondroitin sulfate 375 mg ( fortiflex® 375, Virbac ) once a day. The fractured bones were radiographed and biopsied every two weeks after the surgery. All the follow-ups were continued for 12 weeks. The radiographic results showed that both groups had the callus almost at the same time, but the density of the chondroitin group was denser. On the histopathologic examination, the chondrocytes were appeared at the 4th week, while the mineralization and/or ossification occurred at 6th week after the surgery in the chondroitin group. The healing speed of the chondroitin was much faster than that of the control group. According to the result, we may define that chondroitin sulfate could accelerate the fractured bone healing. |
