In accordance with the compilation of industrial production statistics, the production amount of notebook was 14,623,376 unit in Taiwan at 2004. Nevertheless, the production amount of cathode ray tube monitors (CRT) decreases year by year. The production amount of cathode ray tube monitor is superseded by liquid crystal displays (LCD) gradually. According to the estimation of Environment Protection Administration, the wasted notebook was 313,812 unit in Taiwan at 2004. From these data, there will be certainly a large number of the waste LCD in the near future in Taiwan. Hence, the recovery of precious materials from LCD should be done as early as possible. This research studied on the recovery of sliver, palladium, and copper from control integrated circuit chips (control IC chips). First, control IC chips were stripped from printed circuit boards, pulverized, and well mixed. The powder was then soaked in nitric acid solution. The operating parameters studied in this research were soaking factors, reaction temperature ( room temperature, 60℃, 70℃, 80℃), nitric acid concentration ( ratio is 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4), and soaking time (1hr、2hr、3hr、4hr). From the results of this research, the best operating condition for sliver and copper is at 80℃, 1:1 nitric acid solution and 4hr soaking time. The results of palladium’s soaking recovery and total mass analysis show that the content of palladium in control IC chips is very little. The result has indicated that palladium is not suit to recovery. The recovery of sliver and copper is commanded to concentrate after collections in order to improve economic effects, and to reveal double targets of LCD’s reduction and recycling.
