The Relationship between Life Meaning and Self Efficacy of Senior High School Counselors

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between life meaning and self efficacy of senior high school counselors. Questionnaire survey was methodologically utilized. The instrument applied in the study include Basic Information Inventory, Life Meaning Scale and School Counselors’ Self Efficacy Scale. The participants were 115 senior high school counselors in Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County. The obtained data was analyzed by applying means, stardard deviation, one-way MANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis. The conclusions of this study are as follow: 1. The life meaning of senior high school counselors is above middle degree. Score on the will for meaning is the highest and the nonexistential frustration is the least. 2. The self efficacy of senior high school counselors is above middle degree. Score on counseling efficacy value is the highest and the performance efficacy is the least. 3. Those senior high school counselors between 30-34 years old in Kaohsiung City, experience more life meaning. 4. Those senior high school counselors between 30-34 years old, majored in counseling or guidance with more than 5 years of counseling experience, have better counselors’ self efficacy. 5. Public senior high school counselors experience more self efficacy. 6. There is positive correlation between life meaning and self efficacy to senior high school counselors. 7. Control of life, counseling experience, acceptance of death, major subjects and will for meaning are helpful to predict senior high school counselors’ self efficacy effectively. According to above conclusions, some suggestions are made respectively for senior high school counselors, senior high school authorities, related educational authorities and further research.
