Enter Into Marriage or Give Up Love--The Dilemma of Women in Long-term Love Relationships

| Popis: | 95 The purpose of this study was to understand the dilemma of women trapped in long-term love relationships, and their different ways to handle this situation. In-depth interviews with six women age between 28-32 were administered. They all have been staying in long-term love relationships for at least 7 years. Results are as follows: 1. There are two types of dilemma among them: One is wishing to marry but is not allowed to；the other is ready to marry but doesn’t want to. The former situation usually results from the opposition of family members, or the boyfriend is not willing to commit. The latter situation is caused by different reasons: psychology or financially unprepared, and worry about being trapped in a marriage or being dragged by the boyfriend’s family debts. 2. More new challenges are encountered by those women: problems in cohabitation relationship, increasing pressure for getting married, holding out the relationship, the future uncertain about the relationship. 3. In order to diminish the negative mood which the dilemma brings, these women usually use the ways to face the long-term love relationship: changing their self-personality and the focus of life, planning their own time, increasing communications and interaction with each other. |
