The Study of Elementary School Children's Self-Concept and The Peer Relationship

Popis: | 92 The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the variable of individual backgrounds and the self-concept and the peer relationship of elementary school students. Questionnaire survey has been used to collect the necessary data and 1488 questionnaires were sent out. Among them 1363 were valid and returned. The valid return rate reached 91.6%. Descriptive statistics, two-way analysis of variance, Pearson product-moment correlation, and canonical correlation are used to process data. Key results indicate the following: 1. The difference is significant in the overall self-concept interaction of sex with grade. But it is insignificant considering grade with socioeconomic status, sex with socioeconomic status, sex with birth order, and birth order with socioeconomic status; 2. The difference is significant in the overall self-reported peer relationship interaction of sex with grade or sex with birth order. But it is insignificant considering grade with socioeconomic status, sex with socioeconomic status or birth order with socioeconomic status; 3. The difference is insignificant in the overall peer rating peer relationship interaction of sex with grade, grade with socioeconomic status, sex with socioeconomic status, sex with birth order or birth order with socioeconomic status; 4. The canonical correlation between self-concept and self-reported peer relationship is insignificant. However, it is positively correlated considering self-reported peer relationship with selected index or inter-selecting index of peer rating relationship, but negatively correlated with rejected index or inter-rejecting index.
