Evaluation of Leisure Agricultural Websites and Study on the Construction of Meifang Farm Website with XOOPS (eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System)

| Popis: | 92 In this study, all the investigated websites are linked by Easy Agritourism websites, which found on the web of Council of Agriculture. Firstly, we want to understand if the agriculture websites need content management systems (CMS) and to know what kind of information need to improve. So, we investigated the state of established leisure agriculture websites, evaluated the websites content in Taiwan, explored the related characteristics of open-sources CMS and analyzed their functions to find the demands of leisure agriculture websites. Finally, we reconstructed an existed Meifang farm website by XOOPS (eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System) and compared their performances between the old one and the new one. The result of investigating the established state of leisure agriculture websites show that the proportion of website establishment in Taiwan’s was low, the hyperlink in Easy Agritourism websites was not updated, and carelessness of administrator caused some websites unable to link. The outcome of investigating state of established leisure agriculture websites displayed that the period of websites establishment was between two and three years, and the websites was established by themselves. Most farm websites didn’t use database system, the content of website had not passed through the examination, and the number of participator in renewing website was also few. The most farms was willing to use open-sources CMS, and unable to accept the high price CMS. Further, the outcome of the farm websites evaluation displayed that the all investigated websites demonstrate well on the categories of “basic information”, “usability”, “aesthetics”, and “miscellaneous”, but not satisfactory to the categories on “search strategies”, “reliability”, and “currency”. The functions of XOOPS and related Modules could suffice the demands of farm to construct a website, including the “basic and advanced information” of farm, the “website function”, and the “website management”. However the farm website constructed with XOOPS also had some problems. For example, the system upgrade was difficult, the compatibility of Modules was not still enough, the operational interface was quite complex, and it didn’t supply the instruction manual. In the practical application of XOOPS, the whole function of Meifang farm website which was constructed by XOOPS was greater than original ones. Moreover the XOOPS website conformed the each item of website evaluation. In the Integrated aspect, XOOPS can suffice each demand for constructing Meifang farm website, as well as saving the expense that designed web page by professional company. At present, however, it still lacked one Module which could deal with room reservations online. The conclusion of this study is that Taiwan''s farm truly has the necessity for using the web CMS. Besides meeting the demands of constructing websites. CMS also has the effects on improving web information content. |
