Popis: | 92 The existing literature on charitable giving has mostly focused on how individuals’ contributions respond to changes in income and the benefits of tax deduction. However, it has not been particularly emphasized that how the bargaining within a household’s members will affect their decisions on charitable giving. Following Andreoni et al.’s (2003) framework, this study use household telephone interview surveys conducted NTPU poll center to investigate households’ donative behaviors in Taipei, Taiwan. The main purpose of this article is to discuss households’ donative behaviors, including households of singles and married couples. We use the probit model and Tobit model to estimate the impacts of various socio-economic variables on the demand of giving for households. Three main conclusions can be drawn from the results of this study. First, the donative behaviors of single men and women are significantly different. Second, regarding to the total giving within a household, married households tend to mitigate latent conflicts in favor of the husband’s decisions. Finally, it is found that the bargaining cost for a married couple will reduce the household’s giving by 1.6%. |
