There were a 4-year-old high functioning boy with autism and two normal girls in a Integrated Play Group in this study. Twenty one play sessions were conducted and each session was held forty minute a session and twice a week. There was ten-minute social story instruction before the beginning of every play session. Twenty-one play sessions were videotaped and analyzed for both qualitative and quantitative data for peer interactions. The major findings of this case study were as followed: 1. Social stories provided the child with autism play scripts and social interaction models to promote his peer interaction. Using social stories in the play group could also decrease the number of the teacher’s prompt during play sessions. 2. There were more descriptive sentences and directive sentences when social stories were used in the play group. It’s important to consider the length of the children’s oral sentences before writing up a social story. It is also suggested to use pictures, computers, and role play altogether to help children with autism understand social stories.
