Design of Digital IIR Filters Using Least P-power Error Criterion

The least p-power error criterion is presented to design digital Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter in this thesis. It is clear that the advantage of IIR filter is to obtain the same accuracy as Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter using less filter coefficients. However, the IIR filters will encounter the stability problem in practice; so we try to incorporate the stability constraint into the design method such that the designed IIR filter is stable. In chapter two, the least p-power frequency response error criterion is used to design IIR filter to assure stability. The proposed method easily incorporate the linear constraint of frequency response and can be extended to two-dimensional (2-D) IIR filter design. Design examples of lowpass filters are demonstrated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. In chapter three, the least p-power phase error criterion is adopted to design allpass filters and design examples of Hilbert transformer, fractional delay filter and notch filter are demonstrated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally, I make some conclusions for this thesis.
