This study attempts to explore the parents’ experiences in their eldest children’s entering the elementary schools, identifying the parents’ emotional impact as well as clarifying the significance of parenting beliefs in helping their children go through the school orientation. Methodologically, semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect twelve copies of text data from three couples of parents. Through the ensuing thematic analysis, five themes were developed: (a) the application of appropriate parenting strategies, (b) the roles played by parents, (c) the emotional impact of parents, (d) the aid for children’s school learning and (e) the emphasis of parenting beliefs and family values. Going to elementary school can be mentally demanding for the school novices, as it means a total change in life and poses a great challenge for them. As for the parents, they also tend to undergo tremendous emotional stresses. Results of this study highlight the essential measures taken to accommodate the need of these school goers. The findings can be particularly valuable to the parties involved, including the parents, the elementary schools and even the family educators, for their better understandings of and arrangement for the children’s debut at the elementary schools. With good hope, the information presented here might prove to be of use for further study in this respect. Key words: eldest children, parenting experience, thematic analysis
