Popis: | 92 The popular uses of the internet in education allow instruction and assessment to become more diversified. The purpose of this research was to investigate on how to integrate web-based portfolio into mathematics instruction, and to assess its effectiveness on students’ learning. Action research was adopted in this research. A learning website, which integrating a web-based portfolio, was developed and used for the study. Totally thirty-one 8th grade students participated in this study. The instructional units covered “linear equation,””simultaneous linear equations,”” method of substitution,” and “method of elimination.” After four continuous action research cycles, we assessed effectiveness of web-based portfolio on students’ learning. Both quantitative and qualitative data are collected and analyzed. The quantitative data include achievement tests and Attitude toward Mathematics Scale. The qualitative data include document, worksheet, and discussion protocols from the web-based portfolios, and after-class interview transcripts. Constant comparison and triangulation methods are used for data analysis. The results of research indicated that: 1.In order to fully collect students’ portfolios, the development and design of the website must consider instructional materials, teacher and student interaction, and management of student’s behavior on computer. 2.The web-based protfolio can help students develop active learning and reflection abilities. 3.The students’ attitude toward mathematics increased after the instruction, particularly on scale of motivation of mathematics investigation and usefulness of mathematics. 4.The students’ responses more confidence on the mathematics learning after web-based portfolio instruction. 5.The teacher can understand student’s learning condition and give instant help through web-based portfolio. 6.Some disadvantages of web-based portfolio include overloading for the teachers to deal with students’journals and documents, development and design of the website, and connection problem during the instruction. Suggestions of the study are also given at the end of this article. |
