In this study, a robust fuzzy-grey controller, which is used to control themotor’s speed of a ship electric propulsion system, is proposed. A traditionalfuzzy controller makes the fuzzy decision based on its system outputs anderrors. Such control strategy deteriorates the system adaptability. Therefore,grey theory and fuzzy logic control are combined to construct a fuzzy-greycontroller. The grey model, i.e., GM(1,1), applied to predict the motor speed,which are used as the third references for the fuzzy decision in order toaccelerate the system response and accuracy. In this target of study, a DCmotor is applied to the light boat. The simulated and experimental resultsshow that a fuzzy-grey controller outperforms the conventional fuzzycontroller and PID controller for DC motor speed control.
