A study of design decision making- Taking the industry design project as an example

| Popis: | 92 Design becomes the medium of the industries tried to develop their own original products to raise the additional value and profits under the global competitive pressure. At the same time, design management was valued gradually. All the manage functions are relate to the decision making. Consequently, to increase the quality and efficiency of the decision making of the industries became an important issue. This study elect the research units that the internal industries with industrial design department. Research method elects case study and convenient and intentional sampling. Face-to-face in in-depth interview of the case study with thirteen objects, the managers who have the design decision power in four local industries. Content analysis was used to analyze the interview results. Gain the information of the styles and the considerations of the design maker and the timing when they make decisions, and then provide the reference for the actual practice of design decision making. The main conclusion of this study: (1) there are three formal phases in the decision making timing: Design Drawing Verification, Design Mock-up Verification and Test Production Verification; (2) there are two styles of design maker number for design decision making: decision making by a group or a person, and there are four styles of design decision making: meeting, discussion, vote and personal subjective decision making; (3) different constraint force in different design decision styles and different design; (4) constraint force of the different directorships are different; (5) different styles in different decision making phases; (6) there are four kinds of considerations when design managers making decisions: consideration of entire industry, consideration of design itself, consideration of resources restriction and consideration of environment; (7) different considerations existed in different decision making phases and different design managers had their own considerations when making decisions; (8) the main decision makers changed or group decision makers fixed in different phases of these case in this study. |
