In this work a laden Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) is being modeled dynamically while the vehicle is running on the tangent and curved tracks with track irregularity. The dynamic behavior, including the running stability and the derailment safety of the LRV will be analyzed and evaluated by means of computer simulation technique. For running stability analysis, the critical speed of the LRV has been evaluated. The result shows that the critical speed is higher than the maximum required operation speed of the LRV. Furthermore this thesis investigates into the behavior of the rail vehicle when the hunting condition reached. For derailment safety analysis, this thesis evaluates the derailment quotient by applying the Nadal’s criterion and finds out the safe operation speed while the vehicle running on the curved track with considering a minimum turning radius 25m to prevent the rail vehicle from derailing. Finally, the output of loads history varying with time might be employed as realistic and accurate input of LRV bogie fatigue and durability analysis.
