The Design and Study of a Natural Draft Ventilator

When an object with finite volume is presented inside a uniform flow field, regions with low pressure (lower than the freestream static pressure) will certainly exist somewhere along the solid boundary. Such low pressure region can create a pressure potential and cause the fluid (e.g., the indoor air) to flow. This is exactly the driving force of the newly designed natural draft ventilator. In this research, cylindrical shape was chosen as the baseline model. Numerical simulation and model test were both carried out with several control variables in order to decide the design with best performance. Based on the results, it is shown that the new design is indeed outperformed the current turbine-type ventilator.
