In recent years, there are more and more varieties and complexities of surface designs in industrial products. In order to increase the product’s precision, shorten the exploitation time and reduce the cost, the reverse engineering technology includeding CAD/CAM and three dimensional measuring system will play an important role. For aerospace industry, many kinds of blades are the critical parts in aircraft. Those blades have irregular surfaces and complex shapes so that increase the measuring difficulties. However, since the three dimensional measuring machine has been developed, the problem of blade measurement may be overcome by applying this new technique. Even more, the newly developed three measuring machine can be used for reverse engineering technology to get the know how of design experiences. This work is using CMM and CATIA to reconstruct the blade’s solid model. The technique used in this research is to measure a known dimension of base model and the curved surface of cell phone at first. From the resulted point data, those can be calculated to establish cures and surface by the interpolation and approximation methods. After fulfilled the previous procedures, we use CATIA to reconstruct the part’s solid model. The results seems quite fit to the original design, and this method can also be applied to any aircraft’s precision part, especially for blades.
