The effect of R&D team leaders' competences on team innovation effectiveness and team individual innovative behavior

In the era of uncertain and dynamic economy, enterprises should have the ability to response quickly and keeping flexibility to adapt the turbulent environment. Therefore, team becomes the basic unit of organization and work because of business administration in order to arise achievements.(McHugh,1997). “ Innovation or Die”, continuous innovation ability, is the only way for survival of organizations. In most of organizations, R&D people is the role of driving innovation. Then, team leader play a key role of influencing team effectiveness. Therefore, we focus on exploring the effect of R&D team leaders’ competences on team innovation effectiveness and team individual innovative behavior. In this study, we do cross-levels analysis, in team-level we are going to investigate the effect of R&D team leaders’ competences on team innovation effectiveness, the in individual-level, to find out the effect of team leaders’ competences on individual behavior and we use hierarchical regression to analyze data. After examining 52 R&D teams, the results revel as below: (1) In team-level, there is positive effect of team leaders’ competences on innovation performance but not on the role of innovation. (2) In individual-level, team leaders’ competences has positive and outstanding effect on individual innovative behavior, such as, leadership, achievement orientation and leading innovation.
