Using Internet to provide instructional materials has become an alternative learning trend of future library instruction. More and more web-based learning will be integrated to teach information skills. This approach allows readers to learn and to access library resources beyond the limit of time and space. Internet not only provides access but also permits interactions among its users. As more and more interaction devices available on the web, it is necessary to evaluate how users actually utilize these tools along the process of learning. This study explored user interaction needs when engaging an online leaning. A web-based library instruction "LibTeach" was used as an instructional setting allowing students to interact with the instruction and with other people. How students used and reacted toward the interaction functions provided on the website was observed. The research results indicate that students seldom used the interaction tools, such as discussion column and reference query provided on the website. They preferred using these interaction tools for informal chatting rather than formal learning. Users'' suggestions about how these interactive tools should be implemented in a web-based learning environment are also provided.
