Blended learning of instructor-led training and e-learning is a new trend of education that integrates the traditional face-to-face interaction and self-paced online learning. It is widely used in many higher educational institutions for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the traditional classroom learning approach. This thesis proposes a blended learning model which consists of three important factors and three structural elements for blended learning in higher education. The three factors are the role of teacher, the learning pace of student, and dynamic learning materials, and the three essential structural elements are the learning support, learning environment, and knowledge innovation. The adaptability and effectiveness of blended learning for students are examined and analyzed by using some of e-learning systems as a way of supporting instructors in teaching and students in learning. The successful experiences of this study indicate that blended learning has significant potential for higher education and it can be applied to accommodate traditional education. Some challenges of blended learning are also identified in this thesis and discussed.
