Multilevel inverter scheme is proposed in this thesis for the application of the wind power co-generation system. Rather than the traditional synchronous machine, the induction machine is used for the power generation to feed the power into the grid. The associated power electronics driver equipment is developed in the thesis. The digital DSP controller, EMI filter, active (power factor correction) PFC, and the three-level inverter will be investigated in our proposed wind power generation architecture which include the grid-connection power electronics module. With the three-level inverter included, the improved performance of voltage and current will be obtained. High efficiency, high power factor, low harmonics, and low interference can be thus concluded. Therefore, the proposed scheme can be applied onto the implementation of the associated co-generation power system. As for the experimental setup, the micro-controller (DSP 2407), the power devices (GT20J301), and the active PFC device (L4981) are selected as the vital experimental components. In addition, DC generator is used to simulate the fictitious wind power. The thesis covers the essential topics of three-level inverter and improvements on electrical characteristics for the grid system by using PFC application. Mechanical operational characteristics are also investigated for the wind power generation system.
