This thesis focuses on the effect of rotor speed on the performance of automatic ball balancers (ABB). ABB is a device for reducing the unbalance mass of the optical disk device. The first step in research is building up the whole system with the mathematical model. Secondly, employ Lagrange method to derive equations of motion for the equivalent stator and balls. Then make stability analysis for system by using multiple time scale method. Thirdly, the numerical analysis of system is simulated by the software Matlab. From the result, when rotor speed operated under the translation resonance, ABB will produce vibration to make system unstable. We should avoid operating too near rotational resonance when rotor speed is between translation and rotational resonance. The best effect of reducing vibration is operated over rotational resonance. Finally, this thesis provided design guidelines for ABB.
