Effect of konjac suppemen on blood lipid, blood sugar and nutrition status in type 2 diabetic patients.

The main goal of the present study was to compare the nutritional profile of healthy and diabetic adults ranging from 50-75 yo. Secondly, effects of konjac glucomannan (KGM)supplement (3.6 g/d)for 28 d on blood glucose and lipid levels in hyperlipidemic type 2 diabetic patients were examined in this double-blind, crossover trial. Subjects were recruited through local advertisement or. Twenty-one healthy adults (age 60.6±5.3, BMI 23.3±3.7 kg/m2) were recruited from the local advertisement for the evaluation of nutritional status. On the other hand, twenty-two diabetic subjects (fasting blood glucose < 180 mg/dL, age 65.3±8.8 years, BMI 25.5±3.15 kg/m2) with elevated blood cholesterol levels ( ³200 mg/dL) were recruited from the outpatient department of the General Veterinarian Hospital. Fasting blood samples were drawn for plasma lipids, fasting glucose, 2-h postprandial glucose and HbA1C levels, and other nutritional indices for each experimental period. Results: The levels of education, gastrointestinal problems, and chewing difficulty were higher in the diabetic subjects than the healthy counterpart.
