A study of Participation Motivation and Behaviorof Tai-chi Chuan Participants in Taipei City

Popis: | 89 After post-industrialized society, more attention has been paid to have more recreation time. The concept of recreational benefits becomes more aware to most of people. Based on above new life style, the health-related physical fitness clubs and recreational sports were increased rapidly in Taiwan. To provide the adequate recreational activities, the consumers’ need and motivation became an interesting research topic. Tai-chi Chuan is one of the traditional Chinese exercises, which might have some evolution effect by modern socializations. In the changing era of modern society, it is interesting to understand the socialization effects to the motivation and behavior of Tai-chi Chuan exercise participants in Taipei. Those people who have practiced Tai-chi Chuan for more than one year in major Tai-chi Chuan resorts in Taipei in which 423 people answered the questionnaire and 372 valid questionnaires received. The results show that the consumers of Tai-chi Chuan mainly male (68.3﹪), the ranges of ages from 51~60 years(30.4﹪), married participants (81.2﹪), with bachelor degrees (34.7﹪), retirees (29.6﹪), average monthly income 40~60 thousands Taiwan dollar (29.3﹪), average monthly leisure expenses 1001~5000 Taiwan dollar(32.3﹪), without follow specific instructors (63.7﹪), derive information from cater-cousin(61.8﹪),practice time from 6:00 to 12:00 noon. (73.9﹪), practice frequency once a week (49.5﹪), practice duration 1 to 2 hours(44.1﹪), exercise intensity with irregular patterns (40.1﹪)and 1~3 years of participants (50.8﹪) in more proportion to the other variables. The main participation motivation is to improve physical fitness and self-confidence. The Tai-chi Chuan exercise participants’ motivation and behavior are affected by gender, age, marital status, level of education, vocation, income, and recreational budget variables. |
