The Study of Single-Molecule Fluorescence of Long-Chain Luminescent Conjugated Polymers

Popis: | 89 Recently, study of single molecule is very popular. Small molucules and dye molecules had been studied. The first report of single PPV's molecularfluoresence,which is PPV-PPyV copolymer, is from Barbara's group in 1997. They also studied single 2-methoxy-5-(20-ethylhexyl) oxy-1,4-phenylene-vinylene (MEH-PPV) polymer, which has 5% tetrahedral defect-density, with the chain length longer than 1000 monomer units and molecular weight near 1,000,000, and reported the results in 2000. They found that defect will affect the conformation of polymers, which will affect the MEH-PPV's fluorescence. Now we are interesting in the optical properties of single long-chain 2,5-dioctyloxy p-phenylene vinylene (DOO-PPV)which has 1% tetrahedral defect-density, with chain lehgth longer than 300 monomer units and molecular weight near 100,000. We found that the fluorescence behavior of 5% MEH-PPV and short-chain DOO-PPV were different. We also found the information of conformation of long -chain DOO-PPV polymers by adding modulation to the experiments. Summarized the results, we conclude that the difference in molecular weight and tetrahedral defect-density might play important roles in a ffecting polymer0s fluorescent behavior. |
