Performance Evaluation of A Multiprocessor Support for Concurrent Execution of Critical Sections

In this research, in order to improve the concurrency of critical sections on distributed shared memory multiprocessors, we designed various concurrency control support for critical sections and simulate its system performance simulation. The system features consist of: □ Distributed shared memory multiprocessor □ Cache coherence mechanism on multiprocessors □ Hardware support for the locking mechanism of the new concurrency control method □ Hardware support for critical section time-out and rollback for handling deadlocks In order to validate the effectiveness of the new concurrency control support, we designed performance simulators to carry out performance evaluation of our design and ordinary exclusive critical section concurrency support on distributed shared memory multiprocessor simulation environment. We experimented and compared their performance with types of input workload generated with various characteristics parameters.
