This thesis aims at examining the modern aestheticism in J. G. Ballard’s novel as well as David Cronenberg’s movie, Crash, in terms of the avant-gardiste perspective, which prefers to lead art back into social praxis. The symbolism of“Crash” represents a technological lure, which causes people's spiritual and physical conflicts in modern times."Crash" is a conduit, a passage, which makes the confluence of body and technology possible. By scrutinizing“crash”, the struggle between the corporeal body and technological body in the twentieth century, in my opinion, doesn't bring us damage but the meaning of ex-sistence.It is through the avant-garde delusion that Ballard’s writing succeeds in contesting systematic epistemology and accomplishing transcendence. Crash takes its readers’thoughts to the limits of comprehension and thus broadens their horizons. As a result, the metaphorical connection between the corporal and the technological generates a positive and therapeutic energy.
