The type of spread spectrum employed by Global Positioning System (GPS) is known as binary phase shift keying direct sequence spread spectrum (BPSK DSSS). The signal receiving techniques need extra dimension of code synchronization. There are two stages of code synchronization. The first stage determines the initial code phase. This part is called “code acquisition ”. The second stage maintains code synchronization after initial acquisition. This is called “code tracking”. The relative motion between a satellite and a receiver causes the Doppler effect. And the satellite signal has propagation delay from space. So the performance of code synchronization will be reduced. The phenomenon is called “code slipping”. In this thesis we will adopt a correlator to correlate the received signal and the reference signal for code acquisition mode. In code tracking we employ Delay Lock Loop (DLL). Finally, we design a PRN code generator and a code clock generator that provide GPS receiver for code tracking.
