Object: The purpose of this study was to investigate the shear strength and bond durability of various dentin surface treatments. The treatments include of phosphate etching, self-etching, and laser etching. Methods: 105 extracted human mandibular molars were exposed by grinding with # 180, # 320,and # 600 abrasive paper. After a series of grinding, rinsing and drying, teeth were individually mounted in ring with epoxy resin and randomly assigned into three groups. Each group was assigned into five subgroups for different thermocycles. These specimens were stored in 37℃ water before shear loading to failure at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. After shear test, the fracture area were examined under a scanning electron microscope. Results: Phosphate etching showed the highest strength. After thermocycling, shear strength values of all treated dentin decreasing with increasing number of the thermocycling. Conclusion: Self-etching and laser etching had lower shear strength, however self-etching and laser etching have such advantages, as biocompatibility, seal capacity and durability when applied to dentin treatment.
