Effect of glass flux on the sintering properties of ZnNb2O6 ceramics powder

Dielectric resonator has played an important role in the communication system as the requirement increased in the recent years. Since the commercial competition has been keen, the trend of electrical device became small and light scaled. The development of multi-layer electrical device is one of the ways to increase the volume efficiency. In the manufacturing process of multi-layer device, the ceramic material should be co-sintered with the inter-metallic material. Most of the dielectric ceramic material has a high sintering temperature and there is a great strict on the selection of inter-electrode materials. The main component is ZnNb2O6 and the different component and proportion of the glass additives are used in this study. Low temperature sintering is processed to analyze the properties in order to find out the affection of the glass additives on the dielectric properties of ceramic and the mechanism of sintering. It is known that the low melting point glass additive will cause liquid phase sintering. This will increase the densification of the specimen and decrease its porosity. Both of them apparently enhance the dielectric constant and dielectric quality factor. The glass additive will react with parts of ZnNb2O6 and form second phase. The residual glass additive and the second phase will apparently affect the dielectric properties since the content of glass additive increases.
