Improper design of a diffuser will affect the air distribution in a room, and will cause uncomfort. The effects could more severe when cold air is used. Experimental measurement of the flow field cause by a diffuser is constrained due to low sensitivity and accuracy of the experimental equipment. In numerical analysis, rectangular grids that applied for the room are not suitable for the shape and dimension of a diffuser. Practically, to achieve the complete simulation of airflow due to a diffuser is problematic. This research has three parts. First, flow fields caused by a multi-cone and a vortex diffuser were measurement by automatic data acquisition. Their applicability in low temperature air is discussed. Second, zonal hybrid grid technique is used in overcoming the problems of flow simulation. Local agreement is obtained compared to flow measurement. The third part is the study of an innovation on the diffusers to avoid surface condensation. Both experiments and computer analysis were conducted to show that the airflow near the diffusers of those designs could help to prevent surface condensation. The above research results show that zonal hybrid grid techniques can be used to model complex shape diffusers. The design of the cones of a diffuser that include the cone angle and punched holes on the inner cones has practical applications. These results contribute to the advancement of academic research and industrial technology.
