A model reference adaptive control of a class of feedback linearizable nonlinear systems based on a function approximation method is proposed in this thesis. The unknown model dynamics are assumed a nonlinear function which can be approximated by the linear combination of basis functions and weights. The adaptive law is designed based on the Lyapunov analysis. An asymptotical stability result can be achieved even lack of any information about the unknown dynamics. It is shown from simulations that the proposed control schemes has good performance.
